Thus,\u00a0although the next High Level Political Forum (HLPF)\u00a0and therefore the review of \u00a0SDG 4\u00a0is still some months away,\u00a0it is important to prepare timely for the review of SDG 4.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As you \u00a0all know, the special Goal on Education\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/icae2.us15.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=731aeaa034be063208d9bb5a6&amp;id=a814156de0&amp;e=46b9fe1f7d\">SDG 4<\/a>\u00a0aims to \u201censure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all\u201d. This Goal\u00a0is part of\u00a0the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/icae2.us15.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=731aeaa034be063208d9bb5a6&amp;id=ce08bc945f&amp;e=46b9fe1f7d\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development<\/a>:\u00a0the\u00a0\u201cplan of action for people, planet and prosperity\u201d, which\u00a0comprises of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).<\/p>\n<p>Reviewing the implementation and progress towards achieving all, and for ICAE specifically\u00a0SDG 4, its 10 targets and indicators,\u00a0is significant. There are several important opportunities, activities and occasions coming up in the near future, where ICAE will be active in the preparation, involved in the implementation and personally be present at the events.<\/p>\n<p><em>This post will give you a short introduction to the major events coming up, while further and in-depth information will follow in the next few months, also introducing you to areas and possibilities to getting involved and becoming active yourself.<\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #339966;\"><strong><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-1194 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/icae.global\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/en-_gem_2018_visual_date_infocus_size-300x136.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"392\" height=\"186\" \/><\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #339966;\"><strong>Global Education Meeting 2018, 3-5 December 2018 Brussels<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><strong>The UNESCO\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/icae2.us15.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=731aeaa034be063208d9bb5a6&amp;id=4509792cf7&amp;e=46b9fe1f7d\">Global Education Meeting,<\/a>\u00a0on 3 to 5 December 2018 in Brussels\/Belgium, reviewed progress towards the universal global education targets and commitments since the adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in 2015. ICAE was present\u00a0during the discussions and part of the\u00a0exhibition through a stand.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It brought together global community together to take stock of progress and identify strategic priority areas requiring political guidance and intervention for the effective achievement of the global Education 2030 Agenda. The Global Meeting was convened by UNESCO in its mandated role as lead agency and coordinator of the Education 2030 Agenda, with support of the Government of Belgium.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1198\" src=\"http:\/\/icae.global\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/WhatsApp-Image-2018-12-03-at-09.23.30-225x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/icae.global\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/WhatsApp-Image-2018-12-03-at-09.23.30-225x300.jpeg 225w, http:\/\/icae.global\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/WhatsApp-Image-2018-12-03-at-09.23.30-600x800.jpeg 600w, http:\/\/icae.global\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/WhatsApp-Image-2018-12-03-at-09.23.30-768x1024.jpeg 768w, http:\/\/icae.global\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/WhatsApp-Image-2018-12-03-at-09.23.30.jpeg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/> <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1204\" src=\"http:\/\/icae.global\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/20181204_130514-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/icae.global\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/20181204_130514-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/icae.global\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/20181204_130514-600x450.jpg 600w, http:\/\/icae.global\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/20181204_130514-768x576.jpg 768w, http:\/\/icae.global\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/20181204_130514-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As such, was an assessment of effective policies and strategies and of key challenges with regard to the implementation of SDG4 as well as of education-related targets within other development goals.\u00a0The three-day event consisted of a High-Level Technical Meeting (1.5 days) including a Forum of parallel sessions and a Leaders\u2019 Meeting for Ministers, Vice-Ministers and\/or heads of delegations (1.5 days).\u00a0By drawing largely on data from the UNESCO Institute for Statistics and analyses in the Global Education Monitoring reports, the review explored key questions such as what structures and concrete measures, in term of education sector policy, management, monitoring and financing, have been put in place to ensure implementation of education 2030 targets and commitments. Making education and training systems more equitable and inclusive \u201cleaving no one behind\u201d<br \/>\n2. Eradicating illiteracy<br \/>\n3. Including migrants, displaced persons and refugees in our education and training systems<br \/>\n4. Providing quality gender-responsive education and training<br \/>\n5. Strengthening education for global citizenship and for sustainable development<br \/>\n6. Providing open, flexible and responsive education and training systems to meet new skill needs<br \/>\n7. Improving teachers, educators, trainers and school leaders<br \/>\n8. This is\u00a0the main UN platform on Sustainable Development and\u00a0has a central role in the follow-up and review of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the global level. Under the auspices of ECOSOC, the HLPF examines a set of goals annually, as well as their two-way interlinkages.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/icae2.us15.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=731aeaa034be063208d9bb5a6&amp;id=9fd6ecd130&amp;e=46b9fe1f7d\">2019 HLPF review<\/a>, from 9-18 July in New York, will be devoted to the theme \u201cEmpowering people and ensuring inclusiveness and equality\u201d. This includes an in-depth review of SDG4 together with the following goals: SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), 10 (Reduced Inequalities), 13 (Climate action) and 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions), paying particular attention to the issue of migration and forced displacement.\u00a0This will also be the first four-year cycle against which SDG 4 and its interlinkages with other SDGs are reviewed comprehensively during the 2019 United Nations General Assembly Summit.<\/p>\n<h5 class=\"null\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong>Voluntary<\/strong><strong>\u00a0National Reviews<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p>As part of its follow-up and review mechanisms, a central feature and basis of the HLPF are the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/icae2.us15.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=731aeaa034be063208d9bb5a6&amp;id=b50e2ff1da&amp;e=46b9fe1f7d\">voluntary national reviews (VNRs)<\/a>\u00a0that it receives from Member States on their implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the SDGs. Member states are invited to conduct regular and inclusive reviews of progress at the national and sub-national levels, which are voluntary, country-led and country-driven, undertaken by both developed and developing countries.\u00a0The voluntary national reviews aim to facilitate the sharing of experiences, including successes, challenges and lessons learned, with a view to accelerating the implementation of the 2030 Agenda.<\/p>\n<p><strong>In 2019, 51 countries (10 for the second time) have volunteered to present their national voluntary reviews to the HLPF.<\/strong> You can look the list of countries <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/icae2.us15.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=731aeaa034be063208d9bb5a6&amp;id=7891ccf51e&amp;e=46b9fe1f7d\">here<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0and see if you country will submit a VNR as well.<\/p>\n<p>Here you can find the\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/icae2.us15.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=731aeaa034be063208d9bb5a6&amp;id=978b1f3a76&amp;e=46b9fe1f7d\">2018\u00a0Synthesis Report of the voluntary national reviews (VNRs),<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0summarizing\u00a0<strong>46 countries VNR reports<\/strong>\u00a0as presented to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/icae2.us15.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=731aeaa034be063208d9bb5a6&amp;id=7eda7391cb&amp;e=46b9fe1f7d\">High-Level Political Forum in July 2018<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The HLPF and\u00a0reviews are state-led, involving ministerial and other relevant high-level participants, however should also involve multiple stakeholders and have the aim to mobilize a multi-stakeholder support and partnerships for the implementation of the SDGs.<\/p>\n<h5 class=\"null\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong>Multi-Stakeholder Perspectives<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/icae2.us15.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=731aeaa034be063208d9bb5a6&amp;id=ccd6105794&amp;e=46b9fe1f7d\">Major groups and other relevant stakeholders<\/a>\u00a0(MGoS) are the main channel for civil society engagement in the HLPF and the UN Sustainable Development Agenda. ICAE is an initiator and\u00a0Organizing Partner (OP) of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/icae2.us15.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=731aeaa034be063208d9bb5a6&amp;id=7f9b00dacd&amp;e=46b9fe1f7d\">Education and Academia Stakeholder Group (EASG)<\/a>, which is open to all organisations\u00a0andbrings together human rights-based education and academia organisations and networks to engage with the monitoring and review of the SDGs. ICAE underlines at all these events that the\u00a0essential role of adult learning and education (ALE), which includes youth and older adults, to the implementation of SDG 4 and across the SDG agenda needs to be amplified and supported.
