ICAE is proud to announce its continued active participation in the High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) 2024, as we have been in previous years.<\/p>
The High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) will be held from Monday, 8 July, to Wednesday, 17 July 2024<\/strong>, under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council<\/a>. This includes the three-day ministerial segment of the forum from Monday, 15 July, to Wednesday, 17 July 2024<\/strong>as part of the High-level Segment of the Council. The last day of the High-level Segment of ECOSOC will be on Thursday, 18 July 2024<\/strong>.<\/p> The theme will be “Reinforcing the 2030 Agenda and eradicating poverty in times of multiple crises: the effective delivery of sustainable, resilient and innovative solutions<\/strong>\u201d. (A\/DEC\/77\/553<\/a>)<\/p> The HLPF in 2024, without prejudice to the integrated, indivisible and interlinked nature of the Sustainable Development Goals, will review in-depth: Goal 1. <\/strong>End poverty in all its forms everywhere; Goal 2. <\/strong>End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture; Goal 13. <\/strong>Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts; Goal 16. <\/strong>Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels; and Goal 17. <\/strong>Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development.<\/p> The HLPF in July 2024 will be the first HLPF under the auspices of ECOSOC after the 2023 SDG Summit<\/strong><\/a> – the HLPF convened under the auspices of the General Assembly in September 2023. The 2024 HLPF will support the implementation of the Political Declaration<\/a> and other outcomes of the SDG Summit for advancing the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs. Voluntary National Reviews<\/strong><\/p> As part of its follow-up and review mechanisms, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development encourages member States to conduct regular and inclusive reviews of progress at the national and sub-national levels, which are country-led and country-driven (paragraph 79). The VNR countries<\/a> are expected to submit comprehensive written reports that will be made available in the VNR database. The Education and Academia Stakeholder Group (EASG) invites to this immersive event, where we will delve deep into the intricacies and complexities of transformative education for reaching out lasting peace and security.

As UNESCO stated, peace in the 21st century is not just the absence of violence and conflicts. It is also a positive, participatory, and dynamic process that nurtures our ability to value human dignity and take care of ourselves, each other, and the planet we share. By nurturing critical thinking skills, promoting dialogue, intercultural understanding, environmental stewardship, and fostering a culture of tolerance and respect, education empowers individuals and communities to navigate conflicts peacefully and constructively.

Therefore, this side event provides an opportune moment to examine different interlinkages and the various pathways and mechanisms through which education fosters the development of peace, justice, and robust institutions.

The event will gather experts from governments, academia, civil society activists, youth and students, and UN officials to discuss the trends, gaps and main features from the perspective of vulnerable populations and human rights standards.
