Looking Back to Move Forward: ICAE marks 50 years since its First World Assembly in Tanzania<\/mark><\/h2>

ICAE, in collaboration with the African Foundation for Lifelong Learning (AF3L), invites members and partners to an online webinar commemorating the 50th anniversary of ICAE\u2019s First World Assembly, held in Tanzania in 1976.

The webinar will take place on Tuesday, 30 June 2026, from 15:00 to 16:30 Paris time<\/strong>. Participants are invited to register in advance to receive the Zoom link: https:\/\/us02web.zoom.us\/meeting\/register\/p42_yNSlThqjTPAmywdSdg<\/a><\/p>

Under the title \u201cLooking Back to Move Forward: How Julius Nyerere\u2019s philosophy continues to inform our Adult Learning and Education Praxis,\u201d<\/strong> the webinar will reflect on ICAE\u2019s history and explore how Nyerere\u2019s ideas remain relevant for adult learning and education today.<\/p>

The programme will open with remarks by Carole Houndjo<\/strong>, ICAE Vice President for Africa. Reflections on the first ICAE World Assembly in Tanzania will be shared by Prof. Emeritus Budd Hall<\/strong>, ICAE\u2019s first Secretary General, and Dr Edward Jackson<\/strong>. The guest speaker will be Dr Natasha Shivji<\/strong> from the History Department at the University of Cape Town.<\/p>

Further responses to the challenges of the future will be provided by Isabell Kempf<\/strong>, Director of the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning; Dr Aziz Kaichouh<\/strong>, President of the African Foundation for Lifelong Learning; Teddy Naluwu<\/strong>, UNBOUND National Coordinator in Uganda; and Dr Jose Roberto \u201cRobbie\u201d Guevara<\/strong>, President of ICAE. The programme is coordinated by Farrell Hunter<\/strong>, ICAE Interim Secretary General, who will also provide the closing remarks.<\/p>

Intitul\u00e9 \u00ab Regarder en arri\u00e8re pour aller de l\u2019avant : comment la philosophie de Julius Nyerere continue d\u2019inspirer notre pratique de l\u2019\u00e9ducation et de la formation des adultes <\/strong>\u00bb, ce webinaire proposera une r\u00e9flexion sur l\u2019histoire de l\u2019ICAE et explorera en quoi les id\u00e9es de Nyerere restent pertinentes pour l\u2019\u00e9ducation et la formation des adultes aujourd\u2019hui.<\/p>

Le programme s\u2019ouvrira par une allocution de Carole Houndjo<\/strong>, vice-pr\u00e9sidente de l\u2019ICAE pour l\u2019Afrique et le Dr Aziz Kaichouh<\/strong>, pr\u00e9sident de la Fondation africaine pour l\u2019apprentissage tout au long de la vie.
